Relatively fast-growing tree has bark that ranges from coppery, to white and peeling in older trees. This 50-75 ft. single- or multi-trunked tree has attractive yellow fall foliage. Tolerates well-drained to boggy soil. Aphids can be attracted to birch, so avoid planting near patios or cars.

Bare-root plants are dug when they are dormant and are sold without soil around the roots, packaged in plastic bags to keep them moist.
