Broadleaf deciduous tree or large shrub, may form a thicket, has pithy stems. Attracts birds. Flowers yellowish-white in many branched, flat clusters. Fruit dark blue with whitish bloom, edible, but not very palatable fresh. When cooked makes a good jam, pie, or wine. Prefers forest-edge location.
