Kitsap Public Health Board adopts resolution declaring racism a public health crisis

Resolution 2021-01 commits the Health Board and Kitsap Public Health District to taking specific, meaningful actions to address institutionalized and systemic racism.

Kitsap Public Health Board on Tuesday adopted a resolution “Declaring Racism a Public Health Crisis.”

Resolution 2021-01 commits the Health Board and Kitsap Public Health District to taking specific, meaningful actions to address institutionalized and systemic racism.

“We truly appreciate the input we received from community members — and especially community members of color — as our staff drafted this resolution,” Kitsap Public Health District Administrator Keith Grellner said.

“It is incredibly important for our organization to not only acknowledge the toxic effects of racism in our society but to also confront our own role in these systems and do our part to root out inequities and promote racial justice. We are eager to start this work.”

The full text of the resolution is included below and a recording of the board meeting has been posted at kitsappublichealth.org.
