Thousands of plants were reserved in January and plenty of enthusiastic folks turned up to collect their orders.
Several local native plant nurseries joined us at the Fairgrounds Sheep barn with additional plants for sale.
Saturday was also our annual ‘Doo for You’ event, where we give out free aged manure from the previous year’s county fair.
Around 75 people showed up to collect free doo.
Kitsap’s Parks and Recreation department provided and operated a loader to fill the trucks, and KCD sent a staff member to hand out safety information and composting instructions to all of the participants.
We celebrated the installation of the 100th rain garden to be built through our cost share program last month at Olalla Elementary School. In addition to building the rain garden, the project introduced students to the benefits of rain gardens and issues surrounding pollution and stormwater.
We’ll continue to work towards our next hundred rain gardens with our Dig Day projects in 2014.
We have started accepting orders for the 2014 Tree Sale! First come, first served—so place your orders early for the best selection. Download the 2014 Tree Sale Newsletter to get more details & your order form!
Here’s a chance to learn how to pour your own walkways or pads. Learn from experts!
KCD District Office – 10332 Central Valley Rd. Poulsbo
Learn how to: Calculate mix and amount needed for your project, form the area for the project, order the correct mix and amount, pour and finish the concrete, and cure the finished project.
We will go over all these details before the real pour happens at about 10 AM. Live action after the truck arrives! The lessons learned will enable you to pour a small foundation for a walkway or pad for manure storage or other farm building areas.
